The next day, Julia discovers Kamille has disappeared and concludes she's joined the circus. Furiously chasing after the circus as it drives away, she accidentally gets run over by the circus and dies, entering the spirit realm and being forced to sign a mysterious contract in order to remain alive. The contract reads as follows:

Julia Lazarrett,

You are dead. However, you are offered the following pact:

You are granted a one year extension to your life, during that time you must remain within the confines of the circus. Within that time, you must permanently kill the owner and ringmaster of this circus: Anthonn Gremminger.

If you have not accomplished this goal within one year, your life will end once and for all.

If you accept this pact, press the seal below.

She stamps the contract, leaving the spirit realm and coming back to life, waking up in the attic of the Anthonn Gremminger Traveling Troupe with the attic creature looming over her. Julia runs away and falls through the attic floors, landing on the floor below.

Main characters[]

  • Kamille and julia as kids 2
Kamille Bernaud: Julia and Kamille grew up together and have been best friends since they were very young, and Kamille seems to be Julia's only friend before joining the circus. Julia's introverted and judgmental nature prevents her from making friends at the circus, causing her to feel isolated when Kamille hangs out with people other than Julia. Julia's clinginess and Kamille's ignorance of Julia's feelings causes a rift to open up between the two friends. After the events of Season One, the two open up to each other about how they're feeling and become closer. Kamille manages to convince Julia to be more friendly and to trust more people.
  • Sahed: Due to her prejudice against Ah'kon, Julia distrusts Sahed upon first meeting him and calls him a ”three-eyes”, which he gets irritated about (episode 5). When meeting with Tonny, she uses his name as an excuse to divert the truth of the contract (episode 6). After Tonny argues with Sahed she is led to believe that Sahed is the person she signed her contract with and decides to keep an eye on him (episode 9). While she was distracted, Sahed pulls her between the caravans to ask her about the contract which causes her to gain an attraction towards him (episode 11). Once Julia learns this is not true (episode 17 - 19) she begins working with him.
    • Their first plan (with Rainah) is to find the seal of the water spirit to initiate the government military to bring captive Ah’kon to investigate and having Rainah lure the Ah’kon to their meeting place in the circus. Sahed tells Julia to fetch Tonny to contract with the Ah’kon, upon meeting Tonny he suspects that Julia and Sahed are working together. After Julia and Tonny arrive, Sahed and him argues and Julia intersects asking why they can’t come along alive shortly after the Ah’kon said they’d never tell the government, Amelia (the colonel) shoots one of the Ah’kon (Jathar), Dotty, Bob and Tonny start to try to calm down the military but Julia starts to argue with them which impresses Sahed. After Dotty argues with Sahed and Tonny decides to pack and leave town. Julia chases after Tonny and she witnesses him cutting Mr. Finnegans sprit string. She then goes to Sahed to talk about what she saw and is now fully onboard with the Anthonn Gremminger kill plan (episode 28 - 41)
    • The plan ultimately fails (episode 45 S1 finale), after two months Sahed frees himself and talks to Tonny then takes Julia elsewhere. In that place Julia then makes the difficult decision to stop speaking to Sahed, claiming that they're dangerous together (S2, episode 49)
  • Anthonn Gremminger: Julia's first impression of Tonny is that of a wimpy clown. However, soon after signing the pact she learns that she must kill him. She begins spying on him, accidentally causing Tonny to believe she's romantically interested in him.
  • Dotty Kamille Julia
Dorothy: Dotty does her best to make sure Julia feels at home at the circus, inviting her to eat breakfast with her, Bob, and Finn, as well as encouraging her to go to the bonfire parties. Dotty also has many suggestions for Julia's potential role at the circus, being the one who first suggests a knife throwing act.[1]
